Drowning

I would never drown because I can swim so well. And then, the river of life darkens, and presents an eerie reality that tells me, “Yes, you will drown.”Embracing that moment of truth, I down two shots of gin and say. What do I say. I believed in my family. I thought I could. Echoes drum upon my ears telling a different truth. Your sister is gone. She no longer speaks to me. I am trodden.

Must I dig deep to understand such a great loss, I never wanted this. So I drown. No air, only water. I see the light on the surface it turns to blackness, relief. The end of life, inevitable, I embrace my release.
